Position Overview:
Magnolia Team is seeking an Investment Analyst for our Dubai office. This location serves as our Middle East base, providing connectivity to deal flow linking the Gulf with broader developing markets. You will work directly with the firm’s principals to evaluate opportunities in environments with limited external research coverage. The work requires a patient approach to capital deployment prioritized around long-duration outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the underlying economics of producing or near-producing resource assets across the energy and mining sectors.
- Build detailed financial models that accurately reflect operational complexity, incorporating elements like non-standard capital structures or production-linked agreements.
- Assess jurisdictional risk by analysing macroeconomic conditions alongside local regulatory environments.
- Draft internal investment memos that maintain intellectual honesty about what is currently understood versus the specific variables that could alter the investment case.
- Monitor active investments to assist in adjusting capital deployment as underlying situations develop.
Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of experience in institutional finance, such as investment banking or private equity (required).
- Direct exposure to emerging markets or traditional resource assets is heavily preferred.
- Strong technical capability in asset valuation alongside rigorous financial modelling skills.
- Capacity to analyse complex governance arrangements to determine if structural friction reflects genuine risk or actionable pricing inefficiency.
- Independent judgment with a preference for first-hand asset evaluation over reliance on standard institutional benchmarks.
